Celebrating Two Decades: The Journey of a Bangkok Bicycle Tour Pioneer

Founder Andre Breuer recently looked back at the incredible journey of ThailandBiking. While we have passed many milestones, we rarely stop to celebrate. Usually, we are simply too busy ensuring our guests have the best experience possible. However, we recently reached two major achievements that deserve recognition.

First, we successfully launched our custom-designed fleet of bicycles. Andre Breuer designed these bikes himself, drawing on over 20 years of experience in the Thai capital. These city bikes are cool, luxurious, and specifically built for safety. Furthermore, they represent our commitment to quality as the original Bangkok Bicycle Tour Pioneer.

Second, we continue to see a rise in tourists and expats joining our excursions. Despite growing competition, our guest numbers keep increasing. It seems that travelers value experience and authenticity. Consequently, we see many happy faces returning to us year after year.

From The Hague to the Heart of Bangkok

The story of our founder is one of pure coincidence. Andre Breuer was born in The Hague and arrived in Bangkok in 1996. He moved to the city because his wife had found a job in the capital. Initially, Andre worked in the textile industry. Additionally, he served as a freelance tour guide, which gave him deep insights into the Thai tourism sector.

During a career break, Andre did what any true Dutchman would do. He began to discover the beauty of Bangkok by bike. Every day, he explored hidden alleyways and exceptional neighborhoods. These areas were completely unknown to tourists at the time.

Creating the Map for Bangkok Biking

During these rides, Andre had many unique meetings with local residents. They often wondered about the “Farang” (foreigner) cycling through their narrow streets. Andre found so much joy in these trips that he decided to share them with others. However, no maps for cycling existed at the time. Therefore, Andre decided to create his own map of the city.

In April 2004, he officially became the Bangkok Bicycle Tour Pioneer by founding “Recreational Bangkok Biking.” Today, we operate under the name ThailandBiking. Our legendary tours now span across Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Ayutthaya.
