Colors of Bangkok Bike Tour: Discover the City’s Green Jungle
The Colors of Bangkok Bike Tour is our most popular half-day cycling excursion. It takes you through a hidden part of the Thai capital that most travelers never discover on their own. While cycling through Bangkok’s “Green Lung”, you will feel as though you are miles away from the city, even though its hustle and bustle is just across the river. The tour offers a unique perspective on Bangkok, with narrow backstreets and lush gardens that traffic rarely reaches.
Starting the Colors of Bangkok Bike Tour
Riverside Views and River Crossing
The tour begins at our comfortable office lounge on Rama III Road. After a quick bicycle fitting and safety briefing, we start our adventure. We cycle along Rama III Road for just a few minutes before reaching the ferry pier. From the banks of the Chao Phraya River, you can admire the enormous Bhumibol Bridges. These architectural landmarks rise approximately 40 meters above the water, with impressive loops guiding traffic in and out of the city.
Entering the “Green Lung”
Once we cross the river, we arrive in the Bang Krachao subdistrict. Locals often refer to this area as the “Green Lung” or “Bangkok’s Green Jungle.” Covering approximately 16 square kilometers, it is the largest and greenest area near the city center. We cycle along elevated pathways surrounded by dense vegetation and beneath the shade of coconut palms and giant banana trees. You might even recognize some familiar houseplants, although they grow much larger in this tropical environment.
Culture and Tradition in Bang Krachao
700 Years of History at Wat Bang Krasop
Our first major stop in Bang Krachao is Wat Bang Krasop, a peaceful Buddhist temple away from the main tourist routes, with a history dating back approximately 700 years. The temple offers a quiet glimpse into Thailand’s Buddhist heritage. Remember to mind your head when entering, as its ancient doorways were not designed for tall modern visitors.
Muay Thai and Local Parks
We continue deeper into the green surroundings until we reach a local Muay Thai gym. Here, we learn about Thailand’s national sport. If there is a boxing enthusiast in the group, the trainer might even offer a short demonstration. Afterward, we cycle through the beautiful Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park. This peaceful oasis is the perfect place to take a break, enjoy the scenery, and capture some photos.
Local Flavors and the End of the Tour
An Authentic Thai Meal
No Colors of Bangkok Bike Tour is complete without tasting the local cuisine. We stop at a neighborhood restaurant to enjoy a traditional Thai meal. You can choose from classics such as Pad Thai or Khao Pad (fried rice), with chicken, pork, seafood, or a delicious vegetarian option. Simply let your guide know your preference.
Returning to the City
After our meal, we return to the pier and take the ferry back to the city. You do not need to be an experienced cyclist to join this excursion. The pace is relaxed, with plenty of stops for drinks and photos. The Colors of Bangkok Bike Tour is a memorable experience for guests of all ages.
